Hillmont Avenue – Decatur, Georgia

This Custom Home was designed specifically for a very complicated site for a local builder.  Along with the builders criteria, the footprint had to fit in a very tight area while also adhering to the local zoning for maximum lot coverage and a heated floor ratio.  It took a considerable amount of time to adhere to all these parameters.

The house sold before construction began.

Occasionally I get to work on a project that is so unique, interesting and different that I find myself spending many hours of my own time creating and trying different designs.  This is one of those.

The owner had envisioned a high-end pavilion between his swimming pool and basketball court.  This space, mainly for entertaining, needed space for a kitchen, outdoor audio and video, and as much storage as possible.

Frank Lloyd Wright and Louis Sullivan preached, “Form follows Function”.  This building will not win any design awards but it is a great example of a design philosophy established in the late 1800’s.  This simple block structure looks just like what it is, but to the children of Haiti, this is a Taj Mahal.

Good Mews – Marietta, Georgia

Existing Building

Existing Building

Good Mews offers an alternative to traditional animal shelters in the Metro-Atlanta area by providing a no-kill, cage-free haven for homeless, abused, or abandoned cats until placing them in permanent, loving homes. Good Mews promotes public awareness regarding the value of pets, animal welfare, pet overpopulation, and quality human-animal companionship through education and outreach programs. Good Mews is one of the few virtually cage-free, no-kill cat shelters in the state of Georgia. Since 1988, Good Mews has placed over 6,800 cats in permanent homes.

The organization purchased an old dog kennel facility and we helped to design an upgrade the exterior and a revised plan to help them smoothly continue their mission.

Salon Mall – Marietta, Georgia

Existing Building

Existing Building

This is a conceptual design for a Salon in Marietta, Georgia. The existing building is from the 1950’s and is in bad shape, however we had the main structure evaluated by a structural engineer. The walls, floor system and foundation are in good condition and the owner can save money by reusing them.

Another issue is the current building encroaches over existing setbacks. Demolishing the building and reconstructing it within current zoning regulations would reduce the square footage to a point where any project would not be viable. By using the existing building shell, we can reuse the existing shell, but are not enabled to add any additional space.

By maximizing what is existing we are able to convert this old wreck of a building into a pleasing structure.
